Student participation is 'mountain to climb'
The civil servant in charge of the Department for Education and Skills admitted yesterday that the government had "a mountain to climb" to reach its 50 per cent student participation target. Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee, permanent secretary David Normington warned that it would be "even more difficult" to make sure the expansion increased the participation of excluded groups.
BL website echoes with Holocaust voices
The British Library has launched an online learning tool featuring the voices of Holocaust survivors. The Voices of the Holocaust is on the library’s Living Words site. It features the recorded experiences of survivors who came to Britain and is one of Europe’s largest collections of survivor testimonies. Details: www.education.bl.uk/projects
