Thinktank calls for 'socially worthwhile' student jobs
Students should be paid to work in schools and the NHS rather than in bars and fast-food outlets, according to the UK’s leading centre-left thinktank. An Institute for Public Policy Research report, due to be published next month, calls for a scheme that allows students to pay their way through university by working in socially worthwhile jobs.
Suicide risk could rise among NI farmers, report warns
Up to 70 per cent of farmers in Northern Ireland have felt high levels of hopelessness which could lead to a rise in suicides, according to a report by Queen’s University Belfast, commissioned by the Ulster Farmers’ Union.
Scots company to guide student start-ups
The Scottish Institute of Enterprise has appointed Scottish-based patent lawyers Murgitroyd and Company to manage a £200,000 patent fund helping student entrepreneurs. The firm is expected to guide more than 100 student start-up companies through the patent process over the next three years.
