OECD Workshop on Ageing-related Diseases - implications for research and health policy - Paris, 20-21 June 2002

June 12, 2002

Paris, 11 June 2002

Health economists and policy analysts, policy makers and researchers from 21 OECD countries will discuss the implications of Ageing-Related Diseases for research and for health and ageing policy at an international workshop in Paris on 20-21 June 2002.

The workshop, at the International Conference Centre, 19, Avenue Kléber, 75016 Paris, will review the conclusions of a study by OECD experts of treatments, costs and outcomes in relation to a number of significant diseases affecting older people in OECD countries. The entire proceedings will be open to the media.

Discussions will focus on three new OECD studies which contrast and compare the frequency of treatment for breast cancer, ischaemic heart disease and stroke with health outcomes across many OECD countries. Presentations and papers from prominent researchers will complement these studies, with a view to helping participants to identify areas for potential improvements in health system performance.

For further information or to attend the workshop, journalists are invited to contact Helen Fisher in the OECD's Media Relations Division (tel. [33] 1 45 24 80 97).
