Brussels, 03 July 2002
An EU project to monitor, safeguard and visualise shipwrecks, involving partners from six European countries, has launched a new website offering photographs of the project and detailed information on this first collaborative underwater cultural heritage project.
When monitoring the condition of the wrecks, the Moss project's objective is to develop and improve the methods used in monitoring the physical and environmental conditions of shipwrecks. In the course of the project, devices that measure environmental conditions will be used at three different wrecks.
The aim is to awaken European citizens' interest in their common underwater cultural heritage and to encourage participation in activities to protect the heritage. The project acts as an underwater window to four significant European shipwrecks in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
The research project is based on four shipwrecks, located in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Finland. The work is supported by Culture 2000, an EU programme supporting transnational cultural cooperation projects.
The website is available in English, and will soon be available in Finnish, Swedish, German, Dutch and Danish.
