The Santa Lucia Foundation is to contribute €60 million (£38 million) towards laboratories for the new European Brain Research Institute in Rome. The institute, whose president is Nobel-winning neurobiologist Rita Levi Montalcini, hopes to attract international researchers and become the major European centre for research on neurological diseases when it opens within 12 months.
