The most difficult question from the public that Robert Williams, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, has had to answer came after the publication by a US newspaper of a spectacular picture from space with the headline: "Heaven photo-graphed by Hubble". At his next talk, to an audience of schoolchildren, one piped up: "If you turn Hubble round will it photograph Hell?"
