The Scottish Office is giving Pounds 34 million for training up to 1998, a year after gaining devolved responsibility for training policy. George Kynoch, Scottish Office minister for industry, said this would include support for modern apprenticeships combining formal vocational education and training, and work-based skills development, leading to formal qualifications.
