Finland launches new research programmes

The Academy of Finland has launched seven new research programmes, with a budget of 41.3 million euro, in which foreign researchers may also participate.

The new research programmes are:
- Environmental, societal and health effects of genetically modified organisms;
- Future electronics;
- Health care research;
- Industrial design;
- Research programme on Russia;
- Social capital and networks of trust;
- System biology and bioinformatics.

System biology and bioinformatics will receive the largest share of the funding, securing nine million euro, while the research programme on Russia will receive eight million. The electronics and industrial design programmes will run for three years, the others for four years.
