Queen Margaret University College is to build a campus in Edinburgh's green belt, the first entirely new higher education campus development in Scotland for 30 years. QMUC has aimed for some time to bring together two of its existing campuses, which are at opposite ends of the city. But it was last year outbid by the Royal Bank of Scotland for the former Gogarburn Hospital site. Most of its staff and students will move to a 35-acre site in East Lothian, although QMUC will retain its specialist Gateway Theatre site in Edinburgh's city centre. Work on the development is expected to be completed by 2007.
