The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and Edinburgh and Dundee universities have been given more than £2 million from the government's community energy scheme. The scheme, managed by the Energy Saving Trust and the Carbon Trust, gives capital funding for initiatives promoting more efficient heating of buildings and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. The deadline for applications is April 30.
