Portsmouth student attacked
A Portsmouth University student has suffered serious head injuries during an assault. The 19-year-old was walking home when he was attacked on a railway bridge. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Personal finance expert to help students
Ron Sandler, who wrote a critical report on the UK savings industry, has turned his attention to improving the financial knowledge of students. He was today appointed chairman of the Personal Finance Education Group.

Tam Dalyell elected as Edinburgh rector
Veteran MP Tam Dalyell has been elected rector of Edinburgh University by students and staff. He comfortably beat four other competitors, including comic novelist Jenny Colgan.
