The AUT this week urged part-time lecturers in the old universities to lodge claims for retrospective pensions rights by May 3l. This follows a Government amendment to the l993 Pensions Act which now limits backdating claims to two years from that date. Many of the cases already brought by staff seek the right to go back as far as l976, the maximum allowed under European legislation. Tests cases are to be heard by Birmingham's industrial tribunal in the autumn.
