The number of graduates applying to do teacher training in Britain is up 15 per cent on last year, according to figures released this week. The Graduate Teacher Training Registry statistics show the number of applicants to postgraduate teacher training courses are up 17 per cent in England, 1 per cent in Scotland and 11.4 per cent in Wales. There was a 36.5 per cent rise in applications to be maths teachers in England and a 75.5 per cent rise for information technology. The numbers applying to teach economics fell by 16 per cent, music by 12.4 per cent and French by 5.8 per cent
