(Photograph) - Banking on success: Geoff Evans, head of the school of applied sciences at South Bank University, expected to spend this week dealing with the Higher Education Quality Council's assessors. Instead he'll be preparing to grapple with an even more formidable set of opponents - tomorrow the Wales rugby side, of which he is manager, kicks off against Japan in the Rugby World Cup in South Africa.
Dr Evans became manager of Wales less than two months ago when the previous management resigned after losing all four matches in the Five Nations championship. He won seven caps as a lock forward at the start of the 1970s and has been a Welsh selector for the past two years.
