Innovative clinical research is at risk from heavy-handed bureaucratic European legislation that could cripple university hospital trials, says the Academy of Medical Sciences. The cost of non-commercial clinical research will soar if academic clinicians have to meet European Clinical Trial Directive regulations, due to become law in ten months. AMS members believe the UK did not do enough to fight the directive.
