Reverend Iain Whyte, an Edinburgh University chaplain, demonstrated that the Church always manages to pip politicians to the post when it comes to financial scandal. Speaking during a debate on student poverty at this week's General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, he pointed out two ministers in the audience whom he revealed had accumulated substantial sums as students by hiring out boats and delivering post. "The Nolan committee has nothing on my information," he said.
