Experts meet to discuss frontier science

July 3, 2003

Brussels, 02 Jul 2003

The second conference on frontier science will take place from 8 to 12 September in Pavia, Italy.

The conference, entitled 'A Nonlinear World: The Real World', will discuss the complex nature of interdisciplinary science.

Areas for discussion include:
- particle physics and astrophysics;
- condensed matter and quantum optics;
- life sciences (including biology, medicine and neuroscience),
- geophysics and meteorology; complex networks and econophysics.

The conference will also report on recent advances and perspectives in modelling and simulation of complex and nonlinear systems. Particular emphasis will be on unifying concepts and methods used in the studies of complex systems in different disciplines.

The conference is being organised by the department of nuclear and theoretical physics at the university of Pavia and by Italy's national institute for nuclear physics (INFN). It is also being supported by the Italian Ministry for Education and Research (MIUR).
