BBC director-general Greg Dyke will become York University's chancellor next summer.
Since graduating in 1974 with a degree in politics, after being accepted as a mature student with one grade E A level, Mr Dyke has maintained links with York and was awarded an honorary Doctor of the University degree in 1999. He succeeds Dame Janet Barker, who was appointed in 1991.
