Southampton University said this week that it had made no decisions over the future of its sports courses after media reports that hundreds of students were likely to be "farmed out" to local colleges. A spokeswoman said that students had been warned of possible scenarios that could result from a review of Southampton's sports subjects, which is part of a wider strategic review of the university's "portfolio". She said there had not yet been any decision to drop the courses.
