Aberdeen University has won a $1.85 million (£1 million) endowment for its Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies (RIIS), marking St Patrick's Day. The endowment from the American Ireland Fund was made possible by a gift from Loretta Brennan Glucksman, its national chairwoman, and her husband, philanthropist Lewis L. Glucksman. It will fund a chair of Irish and Scottish studies. The first holder will be Tom Devine, the director of the RIIS.
