Part-time further and adult education lecturers are underpaid and poorly supported by their institutions despite being highly professional and committed to their jobs, according to a survey carried out by the Learning and Skills Development Agency.
Some lecturers are paid as little as £8 an hour, and only a fifth out of 700 surveyed had permanent contracts, says a report on the findings.
