Southampton Institute has been granted the power to award degrees. The institute, which has awarded degrees from Nottingham Trent University since 1992, will be able to confer awards in its own name from November 1.
Gaining taught degree-awarding powers entitles the institute to call itself a university college, although there are no immediate plans to do so.
