Swansea goes it alone

Swansea University was last week given the power to award its own degrees.

The Privy Council granted the university teaching and research degree-awarding powers, which means that Swansea could operate as an independent institution. A spokesman said that the university would continue to operate within the University of Wales for the foreseeable future.
