Hull and York universities bid for a new dental school last week. The joint bid followed the Government's announcement last July that it wanted to increase the number of dental training places in England by 170 from October this year.
The bid will be assessed according to five criteria: geographical context, innovation, quality, value for money and widening participation.
A spokesman for the Higher Education Funding Council for England said a decision on the bids would be made by the board at its December meeting.
