The Government was this week urged to rethink its approach to visa charges as Universities UK warned that increasing costs might deter international students. UUK said that it was "deeply disappointed" that ministers planned to increase the cost of entry visas from £36 to £85 on July 1. Ivor Crewe, president of UUK, said: "This worrying increase has come at a peak time for international student recruitment."
