Forty academics have been hired by Liverpool University in a recruitment drive to bring "world-class research stars" to the institution, according to Drummond Bone, the vice-chancellor.
The high-profile scholars include Alon Faraggi, a leader in mathematical string theory who has been poached from Oxford University, and Richard Bradshaw, who is leaving the Swedish Ministry of the Environment to take up a chair in physical geography.
