University museums last week gained the right to reclaim VAT on their running costs. All museums were granted the right to scrap entry fees in 2001, but the right to claim back VAT was denied to university museums, 16 of which hold collections of national or international importance, by a loophole. Now all 48 university museums and galleries can reclaim VAT.
