Universities will have to account for the money they spend on training postgraduate and postdoctoral students under new arrangements. In a letter to institutions this week, Research Councils UK called on universities to report on the use of the skills training funds they received in 2004-05. This will be used to gauge the impact training funds are making on culture in institutions. Universities will be asked to provide case studies to show they are making a difference, which will be added to a database of innovative practice hosted by UK GRAD.
