ROEHAMPTON
Christine Skelton left Newcastle University in June after 19 years to become professor of education at Roehampton University.
She researches issues of gender in primary schooling and is exploring schoolchildren's attitudes to male teachers and whether more men should be recruited to the profession.
"Roehampton is very buzzy at the moment," Professor Skelton said. "With the new vice-chancellor (Paul O'Prey), there is a very positive feel."
She says being close to London will enable her to develop collaborations.
Professor Skelton gained her PhD at Warwick University and has lectured at Sunderland University.
