First established in 2008, the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is a state university located in Rupnagar, a city in the region of Punjab, India. With a primary focus on engineering and science, the institute is part of the wider Indian Institute of Technology system, which are intended to provide high-quality education and research facilities, in mostly STEM subjects, across India. In IIT Ropar’s case, this includes chemistry and chemical engineering, physics, mathematics, materials engineering and various humanities subjects among others. The university moved to its current campus site in 2009. Spread out over 525 acres of open space, the campus provides modern facilities for both recreational and academic purposes, including multiple tennis and volleyball courts, a football field and several activity centres. The university also provides a dedicated health centre specifically for students, in addition to university-run buses and student living facilities. Academically, IIT Ropar maintains a strong focus on research, especially in the fields of physics and artificial intelligence. To this end, the university is home to numerous research labs and specialist equipment, and works hard to establish strong links with industrial partners. As well as this, the university plays host to a number of annual events and festivals, dedicated to sport, culture and music. The city of Rupnagar itself is relatively small, and located close to a number of diverse ecological environments. The largest of these is the Ropar Wetland, an artificial lake created in 1952 and is home to a huge variety of birds, fish and mammals.

Can we measure gravitational effects on entangled photons for shining light onto the interface of quantum physics and gravity? Can we exploit quantum photonics technology for novel quantum machine learning, quantum computing and quantum cybersecurity applications? Can we scale-up multiphoton platforms by using integrated optics, quantum-dot single-photon sources and customized two-dimensional nonlinear materials? Such questions are the driving force behind our research. You will be part of our team and develop new ideas, technologies and experiments. Your personal sphere of influence: As university assistant (PraeDoc) on this 4-year position, you will be part of the research group “Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation”, led by Univ.- Prof. Dr. Philip Walther. The group is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics & Quantum Information group at the Faculty of Physics, and a member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) – one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe – and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quantA. The group’s research combines the development of scalable photonic quantum technology for quantum computing and other quantum information applications with the investigation of fundamental quantum science questions. The main activities reach from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces. You will also benefit from being a fellow of the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics (VDSP), being part of a thriving community with more than 100 quantum scientists on the premises, about 300 quantum researchers in Vienna. The Walther Group unites an international team of scientists who are passionate about research in quantum optics, quantum information and quantum technologies. Our 35 researchers, from undergraduate student, PhD candidate to Postdoc are working together on mostly experimental topics in small subgroups. Teamwork is a key factor to our group’s success. Together we have assembled a unique skill set and knowledge base in quantum information, quantum computation, quantum communication, quantum foundations as well as quantum-gravity interface. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: You are involved in a specific and well-funded research project dedicated to experimental quantum foundations and indefinite causal order. You will present your research plan to the faculty and complete a dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. This will be reviewed and adapted on an annual basis. You will contribute to teaching (lab courses, exercise classes) within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You will fill some administrative tasks, contributing to the success and self-organization of the group for research, teaching and administration. You will continuously stay informed about the state of the art in your field. You contribute to outreach by publications, conference presentations and public activities.   This is part of your personality: You have completed your Master's degree or Diploma in physics and written your thesis in the field of quantum optics. You have experience with quantum foundations, photonic platforms, non-linear processes and table-top experiments. You have experience in academic writing. You should have experience with the usual tools for advanced experiments: programming experience: Matlab, Python, LaTeX. You have excellent command of written and spoken English. The Role and Department The Trusts and Foundations Manager will take an active role in liaising with colleagues to establish funding needs, researching and cultivating funders new and old, submitting applications, administering gifts and stewarding donors. They will collaborate with colleagues across the University in academic, college, professional services and leadership roles. They will represent the Institutional Funders Team in a positive supportive manner while balancing the need for the team to align with DARO's strategic priorities and fundraising campaign. The Trusts and Foundations Manager will research funding opportunities and record information on DARO's Raiser's Edge database, providing a resource which can be regularly updated and interrogated as required. They will develop and strengthen relationships with trusts and foundations by networking and making introductions to new funders where appropriate and keeping channels of communication open with existing partners. In addition to trusts and foundations, funders might include statutory funders and religious orders. The Trusts and Foundations Manager will tailor their approach to each funder to ensure they are using the appropriate channels. They will take a lead on writing selected applications, drawing on colleagues' strengths, and be able to articulate the funding need in the context of the University's wider strategy. The value of applications may range from mid-level grants to £100,000 plus. As required, they will organise and host tailored funder visits to the University, working with colleagues including senior staff and providing briefings. They will record the outcome of applications and any feedback. Where an application is successful, they will assist with gift administration. They will encourage ongoing dialogue with funders where possible and they will maintain funder records on Raiser's Edge by recording interactions and noting any requirements for future action. They will work collaboratively and flexibly with all colleagues in the Institutional Funders Team to maximise income for the benefit of the University.
