Is it too late to suggest that “framework” is an unhelpful label in the research excellence framework and the teaching excellence framework (“England’s KEF: will it be a ‘patent-counting’ extra reporting burden?”, News, 19 October)?
“Assessment exercise”(as in “research assessment exercise”) was better, and the original “research selectivity exercise” was even more to the point.
