George Radda, British Heart Foundation professor of molecular cardiology and head of Oxford University's biochemistry department, will succeed Sir Dai Rees as chief executive of the Medical Research Council on October 1.
Research by Professor Radda was largely responsible for the development of magnetic resonance spectroscopy as an important tool for studying the biochemical basis of diseases.
