Engineering triumph

Data security specialist Maire McLoone, a Royal Academy of Engineering research fellow in the Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) Research Institute at Queen's University Belfast, this week won the Women's Engineering Society prize for young female engineers from the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Dr McLoone, aged 28, leads a team of PhD students and research fellows in investigating the security in e-mail, online shopping and banking, and has attracted £400,000 for the project.
