More pupils from independent schools are going to Oxbridge despite government initiatives to broaden access, it was revealed this week. Almost twice as many places at Oxford were offered to students from Eton last September than five years previously, with numbers jumping from 38 in 2001 to 70. At Westminster, the Oxbridge success rate rose from 68 in 2001 to 80.
