A US university and North America's largest ape research centre will form a partnership to create what they hope will be the world's pre-eminent centre for primate studies. Iowa State University and the Great Ape Trust of Iowa will also develop interdisciplinary postgraduate programmes in primatology at masters and doctorate levels. In February, Iowa State anthropologist Jill Pruetz reported that chimpanzees in Senegal were using spear-shaped tools to hunt.
