The number of full-time vocational further education students in Scotland reached a record 40,654 in 1993/94, an 11 per cent increase on the previous year, according to the latest Scottish Office Education Department figures. But the number of part-time day students and evening class students fell by 12 per cent and 4 per cent respectively. Men accounted for 52 per cent of all students, women for 55 per cent of students aged 25 and over.
