About 700 personal letters by the American poet and short-story writer Laura (Riding) Jackson have been donated to Nottingham Trent University. The donation was made by a research fellow at the university, Mark Jacobs, who began exchanging letters with the author when he started his PhD on her work 31 years ago. Their letter exchanges lasted until her death in 1991. Dr Jacobs said: "The letters are variously witty, funny, warm, and candid, harsh and sometimes outright condemnatory."
