A Pounds 4 million scheme to encourage research into transport has been announced by the Government. The Department of Transport wants to stimulate projects to develop efficient, safe and environmentally acceptable ways of getting about the country. "Technology is the key to getting more out of our transport system," said Transport Minister Steven Norris. "This programme is an opportunity for industry and academia to cooperate in innovative research which will benefit the traveller, the environment and the UK economy."
