About the position The NTNU University Museum is excited to invite applications from highly qualified candidates for a fully-funded PhD project focusing on human osteoarchaeology. This is a 3-year temporary position, with the possibility of extending up to four years including career-promoting work, for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with experience in human osteoarchaeology, stable isotope analysis or other biomolecular methods. As a PhD candidate with us, you will earn a doctorate and gain valuable experience working ethically with bioarchaeological materials in a laboratory setting, developing research skills for a future career in or outside academia.  Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department. About the project The topic of the PhD will involve studying infant feeding and maternal and infant health in the Norwegian past, but the specific aims of the project will be developed in collaboration with the candidate. This position will benefit from access to extensive human osteology collections curated by the NTNU University Museum, as well as state-of-the-art laboratories for stable isotope analysis and radiocarbon dating.  Duties of the position For a position as a PhD candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree within the employment period. Publication of the project results in peer-reviewed journals is expected. Required selection criteria You must have a master's degree in a relevant subject area, and your course of study must correspond to a five-year Norwegian course, where 120 credits have been obtained at the Master’s level. Master’s students may apply, but the master’s degree must be obtained and documented before the application deadline You must have a strong academic record and have an average grade from your Master’s degree which corresponds to a B or better, compared to NTNU’s grading scale. Salary and conditions In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 550 800,-per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. The employment period is 3 years for the doctoral work, with the possibility of extending up to four years including career-promoting work. For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Humanities within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral programme through out the period of employment. Department of Archaeology and Cultural History Our most important field of research is cultural history and cultural heritage, technology and methods of spatial analysis, and conservation in practice. In terms of the Cultural Heritage Act, we conduct archaeological surveys and excavations both on land and in water. Heritage management duties also include preservation and curation of cultural heritage archives and collections. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Job Requirements Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields from a recognized University. Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of industry experience as a software engineer or network engineer with strong technical expertise and hands-on experience. Proficiency in software development principles, including Object-Oriented Design, Microservices, API integration, and full software development lifecycles. Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, Java (preferred but not limited to). Hands-on experience in enterprise networking, including LAN/WAN design and operations with protocols and technologies such as VLAN, OSPF, ACL, VRF lite, VRRP, VPN, and link aggregation.
