China Subject Ratings 2021: Physical Science
The Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings are the only performance tables that judge Chinese institutions against their global peers based on the Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification of subjects.
The ratings for physical science reveal performance across 14 subjects: astronomy; atmospheric sciences; biology; chemistry; ecology; geography; geology; geophysics; history of science and technology; marine sciences; mathematics; physics; statistics; and systems sciences.
In total, 1,266 universities worldwide receive a rating for at least one subject in the physical science pillar.

Seven universities achieve an A+ grade in all 14 of the physical science subjects: Columbia University; Harvard University; University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Cambridge; University of Oxford; and University of Toronto.
Peking University is the top-performing institution in mainland China; achieving 11 A+ grades for physical science.
