World University Rankings 2022 by subject: arts and humanities

The arts and humanities subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

The ranking highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: art, performing arts, design, languages, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology.

This year’s table includes 606 universities, up from 565 last year.

The top six is the same as last year, while the remainder of the top 10 features the same institutions in a slightly different order. However, two universities join the top 20 this year: France’s Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University Paris, which rises three places to 19th, and Germany’s University of Tübingen, which climbs four places to 20th.

The top university outside the US and the UK is LMU Munich in Germany, in 18th place.

The highest new entry is Université Paris-Saclay in the 176-200 band.
