Times Higher Education’s biggest rankings release of the year, the World University Rankings (WUR), is now only three weeks away.

After two years of meeting virtually, the rankings launch event, the World Academic Summit, is back on campus in partnership with New York University, from 10-12 October 2022.

This release is the biggest dataset yet, with 1,799 universities ranked and hundreds more gaining reporter status. The highest ever number of regions participating (104) also makes this iteration the most inclusive to date.

Hundreds of higher education experts will be taking part in the summit, titled “Trajectories in Higher Education: Meeting Rising Expectations”.

THE’s flagship event will unite many of the world’s most influential higher education leaders and researchers and will feature an array of speakers, a gala dinner, masterclasses surrounding the WUR launch, and more.

Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer at THE, said: “The 2023 THE World University Rankings are by far our biggest and most inclusive rankings ever, built on detailed submissions from more than 2,500 universities from 123 countries and drawing on many millions of data points. All the performance data will be freely available on our website from 02.00am BST on 12 October, with fully interactive tables allowing users to personalise a wealth of information, from creating country or regional lists, to reordering the tables based on specific performance metrics, to accessing detailed profiles of selected institutions.”

Mr Baty continued: “While millions will access the data online, hundreds of senior university leaders will gather in person for the live launch at the World Academic Summit in New York.

“However you plan to discover the results – online or with us in person – we promise unprecedented depth of analysis and interpretation, and certainly some eye-catching results.”

THE’s WUR was established in 2004, and has risen to become the leading global league table of universities’ performance. It has grown from just 200 entrants to the more than 2,500 it incorporates today.
