Finalists for the 20th annual THE Awards – widely known as the 'Oscars of higher education' – have been revealed.

Each year these Awards attract hundreds of entries from all corners of the UK and Ireland that exemplify the talent, drive and dedication of individuals and teams across all aspects of university activity.

As is now tradition, the ceremony will serve as the celebratory finale to THE Campus Live UK&IE, a brilliant event in itself.

THE Awards 2024 received well over 700 entries (beating the previous record by nearly 100), which have now been whittled down to 120 finalists across the 19 categories. More than 70 institutions are represented, with six appearing four times each: London South Bank University, and the universities of Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham and Stirling.

John Gill, THE’s editor, said:

“This year’s THE Awards mark the 20th anniversary of the event, which over the past two decades has celebrated the wonderful achievements of a sector that has undergone extraordinary transformation without ever losing sight of the vital role it plays across the UK and Ireland.

“In 2024, it’s fair to say that higher education is going through a challenging period, but these awards are a constant reminder that we should never underestimate the drive and dedication of those who work in our universities to transforming lives for the better.

“Enthusiasm for these awards as a way to showcase those achievements remains undimmed, with more entries in our 20th year than ever before.

“Our sincere congratulations to all those shortlisted in such a competitive year – it really is an achievement to have reached this stage – and we very much look forward to celebrating with you all at our 20th birthday party in Birmingham on 28 November.”

For only the second time since THE Awards launched in 2005, the final ceremony will take place outside of London, with the winners being announced at the ICC Birmingham.
