IN DETAIL
Critical Mass Award
Award winner: Mike Charlton
Institution: Swansea University
Value: £1,975,074
This award will go towards securing Swansea's Atomic Molecular and Laser Physics Group's £2.3 million antihydrogen research programme. The four-year investigation will aim to make precise comparisons between hydrogen and antihydrogen and shed light on the absence of antimatter from the Universe. Professor Charlton said: "We are delighted to receive this prestigious award, which will hopefully enable us to trap antihydrogen long enough for it to be available for spectroscopy."
