These pictures, which appear to have sprung legs, are among the first to be shown in a new gallery to showcase the talents of Northumbria University graduates. The Fresh Art exhibition at the Northumbria University Gallery in Newcastle displays works in various media - including sculpture, line drawings, photography and paintings - by 13 recent graduates. Mara-Helen Wood, gallery director, said: "The first year after graduation is the most daunting for any artist as they seek to establish themselves in a very competitive market. Exhibiting in a professional gallery environment is an essential first step for an emerging artist, and that's why we believe this space is so important." The exhibition runs until 4 November.
