The 33-year-old man was detained in England on 30 December and taken to Northern Ireland the following day, according to a statement from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
He is understood to be Patrick Martens, a former psychology research fellow. The alleged threats were against another academic at Queen’s.
The PSNI statement says: “Detectives have arrested and questioned a 33-year-old man in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged threats, intimidation and threats to kill made against a former employee at Queen’s University.”
He has been released on bail “pending further enquiries” the statement adds.
A spokesman for Queen’s confirmed that the arrested man and the academic against who the threats were allegedly made are both former employees of the university, adding that the issue was a police matter.
In September last year, Queen’s obtained an injunction preventing Dr Martens entering university property.
