UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL Richard Hodder-Williams has succeeded Christopher Clapham (University of Lancaster) as president of the African Studies Association of the United Kingdom 1994/96. T. M. Partington is appointed pro vice chancellor for four years from 1995.

ROYAL METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY John Harris, professor of earth observation at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London has been elected president of the Royal Meterorological Society.
