W. D. Snodgrass

June 26, 1998

Sir, - "What became of Snodgrass? Only two books were published in this country, Heart's Needle and After Experience, the latter in 1968. Since then, he has been in the shadows" (NB, May 29). Well, not quite. I am sorry to have to disagree with your diarist's otherwise witty and informative remarks, but in 1996 the London-based poetry magazine Agenda devoted its spring issue (volume 34, no 1) to the work of W. D. Snodgrass.

The issue, entitled "A tribute to W. D. Snodgrass", included an essay and new poems by the North American writer, plus a number of essays dealing with different aspects of his work. Any interested readers should contact William Cookson, Agenda Magazine, 5 Cranbourne Court, Albert Bridge Road, London SW11 4PE. I'm quite confident there are still come copies left.
