UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ST MARTIN, LANCASTER. Alan Beattie, honorary senior research fellow, has been awarded a personal chair in health promotion.

Peter Mathieson, director of studies for clinical medicine at Christ's College, has been appointed to the chair in renal medicine; Ian Tonks, senior lecturer in finance at LSE, chair in finance; John Furlong, professor of education at the University of Wales, Swansea, chair in education; Andrew Pollard, associate dean of research and project development at the University of the West of England, chair in education; Rosamund Sutherland, senior lecturer at the Institute of Education, London, chair in education. S. Love, senior clinical lecturer in neuropathology, has been appointed to an honorary chair.
