The Government has unveiled plans for a school-based teacher training scheme. The Graduate Teacher programme will allow anyone with a degree to train in the classroom for up to a year to gain qualified teacher status, Eric Forth, education and employment minister, announced this week. All trainees will work as teachers in one or a number of schools during the training period, which could be as short as one term for those who have worked as teachers overseas or in the independent sector.
